Crop Diversity in Ukraine

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

Ukraine has a rich agricultural potential due to its fertile black soil and diverse climatic conditions. This allows for the cultivation of a wide range of crops, which play a significant role in the country's economy and its food security. For many years, plants and people have lived in harmony, creating a unique cultural landscape that has inspired many artists and botanists. The diversity of crops in Ukraine is not only an economic asset but also a source of creative inspiration for many generations of artists and scientists. Reflecting this wealth in art helps to better understand and appreciate the natural gifts of our land.

Red Clover, Trifilium pratense, watercolor on paper, ©Lisa Chernyavska

Artist Lisa Chernyavska has created the real-size painting of Trifolium pratense, also known as Red Clover. This plant is native to Europe, Western Asia and northwest Africa and can grow up to 80 cm tall. It is known to be widely used in alternative medicine.

Larisa Chaika painted Anemóne sylvéstris, grown in her own garden. Wood Anemone is very delicate and elegant flower which blossoms in spring. It is native to meadows and dry deciduous woodlands of central and western Europe, including Ukraine. Due to its ability to grow quickly, anemone can be seen more often in flowerbeds in gardens and parks, rather than in forests.
